Yangon/Sittwe/Mrauk-U/Wesali (4 days)

Sittway is the caital of Rakhine State, bordering India and Bangladesh.While Bagan is bigger, grander and more famous, Mrauk U is more mysterous and remote. A destination by boat trips, 65-kilometre away from sittwe on the coast of Rakhine state and back again. Getting theire is a part of the adventure.

 

Day  01 Yangon - Sittwe (L,D)

Pick-up at hotel in YANGON and transfer to airport for domestic flight to SITTWE, capital and main port of RAKHINE (Arakan) State. On arrival, transfer to hotel. After lunch, sightseeing in Sittwe, including PAYAGYI TEMPLE, CULTURAL MUSEUM, MOSQUES, WATER FRONT and RESIDENTIAL AREAS. Dinner at a simple local restaurant and overnight in Sittwe.

 

Day  02 Sittwe - Maruk Oo (B,L,D)

Transfer to river jetty to join simple boat (no toiled facilities on board) for the 70km (6-8 hours) journey upriver to the ancient former capital of MARUK OO. Picnic lunch will be taken during boat journey. On arrival, transfer to hotel. Proceed for sightseeing of the nearby ancient city with remains of walls, gateways and the unusual 16th century temples such as the maze-like "SHITTAUNG" shrine of 80,000 images. Dinner at a simple local restaurant and overnight in Mrauk Oo.

 

Day  03 Mrauk Oo - Vesali - Sittwe (B,L,D)

Early starts for drive on open truck to WETHALI (Vesali). The 10km distance will take about 1 hour. Sightseeing includes remains of WALLS, DEFENSIVE MOAT SYSTEM, CENTRAL PALACE, and 5 meters high seated BUDDHA. Return to Mrauk Oo and visit to ANDAW PAYA sanctuary, YADANA PON PAYA STUPA and DUKKANTHEIN MONASTERY. Early afternoon, join boat for return journey downriver to SITTWE with picnic lunch on board. Dinner at a simple local restaurant and overnight in Sittwe.

 

Day 04 Sittwe - Yangon (B,L, D)

Visit to Sittwe's main market, where fisher folk, town and rural people come to buy and sell fish and general supplies. Transfer to airport for return flight to YANGON. On arrival, transfer to hotel. Itinerary is subject to changes depending on confirmed flights.

Important Note : Rakhine is still undeveloped for most aspects of tourism. This is essentially an adventure tour. Travel will endeavor to obtain the best available accommodations, transport and facilities for guests, but would ask for their understanding for any practical aspects which do not come up to expectations, and for delays or changes in itinerary. It is not recommended to travel to this region during the monsoon season (June - September) as heave floods are common.
